Single Mine Origin Gold

Ethical Metals

Provenance

Provenance is important to us. It’s also increasingly significant to buyers and investors of gold and silver, who value the assurance that they are not only buying an exceptional precious metal but also making a substantial contribution to the producing mining communities.

Sadly, there have been instances in the past where an abuse of human rights and poor sourcing of precious metals and gemstones have been intertwined. Today, it’s only natural that consumers and producers alike are engaged with the chain of custody of precious metal and gemstone products, and whether the precious metals we sell are being purchased for jewellery or as an investment, our customers need to be confident that their metal has been ethically sourced.

At Anja Potze Fine Jewellery we are proud to now be able to offer wedding rings handmade in gold from a supplier who is the only refinery in the UK that is audited and FLOCERT-accredited to produce Fairtrade gold and silver. What is more, they are the world’s first Single Mine Origin gold refiner. This, along with their unparalleled in-house manufacturing capabilities, ensures that they are leading the way in providing a broad range of ethical options for physical precious metal investment. These rings will carry the SMO hallmark.

SMO gold originates from a conflict free mining operations where employed miners are being paid a fair wage and work in safe conditions. Not only this but the communities in the surrounding area to the mine benefit from sustainability initiatives focussed on improving education, healthcare, safe drinking water, general infrastructure and improving livelihoods.

For more information, the videos below set out the mining operation run by Hummingbird Resources at the Yanfolila Gold Mine, located in southern Mali.  This is a low cost, high grade open pit mining operation, which poured first gold in December 2017.

The first video is from Hummingbird first started.  Since then, they have been ethically mining to full capacity – and looking after the environment.
